Everyone loves a long weekend. It isn’t as much fun, however, when everyone who loves the long weekend is in the same place as you happen to be on your much-anticipated getaway.

Who wants to deal with traffic, queues and the extended families that pack into the cities over the long weekend?
Woodford Car Hire is all about the experience, and thought that for the long weekend ahead, you might want to get a little further out of the city and away from the madding crowd.
Get to Cape Town… and then leave
Cape Town is the darling of the South African travel scene, but it can become a little congested (and expensive!) during peak periods. Woodford suggests landing at Cape Town International Airport, renting a vehicle and giving the city centre a wide berth by visiting these nearby areas. After all, Table Mountain isn’t the only picture-perfect place in the Cape!
Cape Overberg
The Overberg includes the picturesque towns of Swellendam, Arniston, Caledon, Hermanus and L'Agulhas, and comprises the area east of Cape Town. Surrounded by mountains and the ocean, the area is famed for its views both inland and out to sea. Swap the V & A Waterfront and the shopping for long drives through winelands or along the coast, famed for whale watching.
Cape Agulhas
The Cape Agulhas is known for the point at which the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet as well as being the most southern point of Africa. But it’s also a destination that is home to a region with quaint towns such as Arniston, Bredasdrop, Napier, Elim and Struisbaai. Nature reserves, sandy beaches and seaside cottages are all options for a stress-free long weekend.
Olifants River Valley
The Olifants River Valley lies some 200 kilometres north of Cape Town and is likely an area that you’d want to spend much more than a long weekend in. The river gives life to a cradle of citrus-producing farms, making for enchanting scenery, with the Cederberg mountain range and wilderness areas in the background. The area includes the towns of Clanwilliam, Lamberts Bay, Citrusdal and Vredendal – all with plenty of holiday-friendly places to rest your head at night.
